Managing SPIFFs
admin
What Are SPIFFs?
SPIFFs (Sales Performance Incentive Fund) are short-term bonuses designed to motivate specific behaviors — like pushing a new product, clearing end-of-quarter pipeline, or hitting a stretch goal.
Creating a SPIFF
- Navigate to Comp Plans → SPIFFs
- Click "Create SPIFF"
- Configure:
- SPIFF name — e.g., "Q1 New Product Push"
- Type — Flat bonus per deal, percentage of revenue, or fixed amount for hitting a target
- Amount/Rate — The bonus value
- Criteria — Which deals qualify (deal type, product, minimum value, etc.)
- Date range — When the SPIFF is active
- Eligible reps — All reps, specific teams, or individual reps
SPIFF Types
| Type | Example | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
| Per-deal bonus | $500 per deal | Flat bonus added for each qualifying deal |
| Percentage | 2% extra | Additional percentage on top of base commission |
| Target bonus | $2,000 for 5 deals | Lump sum paid when the rep hits the target |
Tracking SPIFFs
Active SPIFFs appear on rep dashboards with a progress tracker showing:
- Current qualifying deals
- Amount earned so far
- Target remaining (for target-type SPIFFs)
Managing Active SPIFFs
- Edit — Adjust criteria or amounts (changes apply to future qualifying deals)
- End Early — Deactivate a SPIFF before its scheduled end date
- Clone — Duplicate a SPIFF for a new period
Info: SPIFF earnings are tracked separately from base commissions in reports and exports, making it easy for finance to process them independently.
