Creating Compensation Plans

admin

Overview

Compensation plans define how your reps earn commissions. Commish supports multiple plan types and a powerful wizard to configure them.

Using the Plan Wizard

Navigate to Comp Plans → Create Plan and follow the steps:

Step 1: Plan Basics

  • Plan name — e.g., "AE Standard Q1 2025"
  • Plan type — Percentage of Revenue, Tiered, Flat Fee, or Hybrid
  • Effective dates — When the plan starts and ends
  • Quota period — Monthly, Quarterly, or Annual

Step 2: Commission Structure

  • Set the base commission rate (e.g., 10% of deal revenue)
  • Configure primary and secondary metrics (revenue, bookings, ARR, etc.)
  • Add accelerator tiers for above-quota performance

Step 3: Additional Rules

  • Ramp schedules for new hires
  • Deal type modifiers (new business vs. renewal vs. expansion)
  • Minimum deal thresholds
  • Caps (if applicable)

AI Plan Builder

Don't want to configure manually? Click "Use AI Plan Builder" and describe your plan in plain English:

"10% commission on all new business revenue, with 1.5x accelerator above 100% quota and 2x above 150%. New hires ramp at 50% for month 1, 75% for month 2, 100% from month 3."

The AI will generate a complete plan configuration that you can review and adjust before saving.

Managing Plans

  • Clone an existing plan to create variations
  • Archive old plans (they remain visible for historical reporting)
  • Edit active plans — changes apply to future deals only
Warning: Editing an active plan does not retroactively change commissions on existing deals.
